Nationals and Avenel Announcements for NJIPMS Club Members

**UPDATE** The meeting time at Schmidt’s will be 5p.m.

Just a reminder that the club will be having a group outing for members at Schmidt’s (Real! German! Food!) on Thursday evening of the Nationals. That’s next Thursday, the 23rd, at 5 p.m.* The restaurant’s website is HERE, and the address is:

Remember, this is a club member event. Others (family, friends, etc.) are welcome to join us, but the club will only be covering the tabs of dues-paying members. This is purely a matter of finances, nothing more.

Secondly, Mike Pavlo and Marc Rocca have been to Avenel recently, and offer this report:  The last day of business will be 7/31/15 (earlier it was posted as 7/28, but he’ll be open thru 7/31).  Store Hours for July 29, 30, 31 are 11:00am-9:00pm.  Currently all books are buy one get one free. All paints are now discounted too. Kits are 30% off. Also buy 2 kits at regular price and get 2 kits of equal or lesser value for free.

The last of the USMC’s CH-46’s

image2One of my friends, Fred Grill, who was a flight mechanic on Sikorsky HH-53’s during the Vietnam war sent me these pictures. Due to the historic markings on this aircraft I though the club would be interested in these pictures.

This aircraft is one of four operational CH-46’s remaining in USMC service and was involved in the American evacuation of Vietnam in 1975. Active duty Marines have restored the aircraft to almost pristine condition. In July the aircraft will be retired and displayed at the Marine museum in Quantico Virginia with final disposition at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington DC.

These pictures were taken in May at Teterboro  Airport in New Jersey while the aircraft was supporting Fleet Week operations.

May 2015 Meeting

IMG_1881Photos from the May 2015 NJIPMS meeting are below. There was a great turnout in both members and models. The business meeting ran short and to the point: the question of whether anyone would be interested in the club renting a van for 6-8 people to drive to the Nationals in Columbus this July was met with the answer that most who know they are going have already secured transportation, so that idea was dropped.

Upcoming Events and News:

  • Art asked that everyone remember that next month is Italian Night.
  • The finish date for the Phantom group build has been set tentatively for January of 2016.
  • Jersey Fest Fair is August 28-30th this year. For those into, or just curious about, Sci-Fi and Fantasy modeling, this is a great show to check out, and it’s close. View their website HERE.
  • MosquitoCon 25 “Silver” is set for April 2nd, 2016. A basic preliminary page has been added HERE. 80 vendor tables are already sold. Our own Jon Da Silva will continue to do the awards, he has something special in mind for the silver anniversary show.
