MosquitoCon 25 Contest Results and Photos Posted

collageOne week later and most of the photos and results have been processed, and now posted. We’re still missing a few photos, waiting on those to come in from a few people, but the majority of them have been uploaded, and the others will be added as soon as we get them in hand.

All of this information has been added to the MosquitoCon 25 page as well, but quick links below. Also, the Best Of Winners post I made last week has been updated with photos of a few of the Best Ofs.

MosquitoCon 25 is a Wrap!

NJ-IPMS-25th-logo-final-(outline-2)Thanks to everyone that came out yesterday. We’re still going through the numbers to get specifics, but we had a huge day as far as walk-in visits and models on the table. Some fantastic work was on display, not the least of which was Dan Kaplan’s 1/700 IJN Shimakaze, which took best in its class, Best Ship, and Best in Show.

We’ll have a list of the rest of the winners and tons of photos to post once the club’s membership gets a little rest and are able to pull the data together. Until then, please check out the Facebook page for information on the very successful Silver Anniversary show.

Keira Quinn

quinnsAs many of you have heard, NJIPMS member Martin Quinn’s daughter Keira lost her battle with cancer earlier today. The viewing for Keira will be on Tuesday, March 15th at Browning-Forshay Funeral Home, Hawthorne NJ. The viewing times will be from 2pm to 4pm and from 7pm to 9pm. The service will be held Wednesday March 16th at 11am at Cornerstone Christian Church in Wyckoff, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Ramapo-Bergen Animal Shelter in Keira’s name.

The NJIPMS eBoard, and the rest of the club, give our sincerest condolences to Martin and his family in this unbelievably tough time.

iHobby 2016

ihobbyiHobby 2016 is now in the books. The Raritan Expo Center hosted this year, the first time in a long time (maybe ever?) the show has come to ‘Jersey. Held in conjunction with a model train show, the expo hall was filled with people.

The manufacturers participating had some nice displays, of particular interest to your editor were the Vallejo and Iwata booths and their product demonstrations. Others on hand included Xuron, Flexi-File, Mega Hobby, and other outlets. While this was mostly a trade show with little retail sales going on, a few vendors did offer their products for sale to the public.

The New Jersey IPMS Make-N-Take was very well attended. With the build area set up in a huge U-shaped table area with at least 2 dozen seats, it was almost always packed with kids building kits donated by various vendors at the event.

All in all, a great showing for the hobby in general, iHobby, and especially NJIPMS.

March 2016 Meeting : Nostalgia Night

2016-03-11 19.33.18The meeting of March 11th, 2016 brought Nostalgia Night, hosted by Mike Terre and Dan Spera. Lots of old school kits and tools and paints were out on the tables. Several members also spoke of what they’d brought, be it the first kit they ever built, a gift from someone, or how a particular kit brought back specific memories.

MosquitoCon 25 business was discussed. Everything is on track for the show. See everyone on April 2nd!
